Pui Kiu College’s Harbin Ice and Snow Cultural and Patriotic Education Tour Concludes Successfully

To broaden students’ horizons, deepen their sense of national identity, and experience cultural diversity, Pui Kiu College organised an eight-day study tour to Harbin in Northeast China from 19 to 26 December 2025. The programme blended historical reflection, technological exploration, cultural immersion, and sports challenges, offering students a vivid and impactful experiential learning journey in the icy northern landscape.

Honouring History and Appreciating the Sacrifice of Predecessors

Patriotic education served as the central theme of the tour. Students visited the exhibition hall of crime committed by Unit 731 of the Japanese Imperial Army, where detailed historical documents and artefacts allowed them to confront the tragic realities of the Japanese invasion and to understand the hardships endured by the Chinese people, as well as the preciousness of peace. The group then proceeded to the Northeast Martyrs Memorial Hall to pay tribute to revolutionary heroes who gave their lives for national independence and the liberation of the people, gaining a deeper appreciation of their unwavering spirit and courage.

Exploring Frontiers in Aerospace Technology

To learn about the nation’s technological achievements, students visited Harbin Institute of Technology, renowned as the “Cradle of Engineers.” A highlight of the tour was the Aerospace Museum, where exhibits of aerospace models and technological innovations enabled students to witness first-hand China’s rapid advancements and independent innovation in the aerospace sector.

Experiencing Ice and Snow and Discovering North–South Cultural Differences

The tour offered southern students a unique opportunity to experience the distinctive ice and snow culture of Northeast China. They explored the fairy-tale landscape of China Snow Town, strolled along Central Street to enjoy its European architectural charm, and tried activities such as ice cycling on the frozen Songhua River. Students experienced first-hand the vast geographical and cultural diversity of the country. Their visit to the Harbin Ice and Snow World further enriched their understanding and appreciation of northern winter traditions.

Challenging Themselves Through Ice and Snow Sports

As part of the physical education component, students took part in introductory skiing lessons at the professional ski resort in Yabuli. Learning a new skill in a demanding winter environment strengthened their physical fitness and coordination while cultivating resilience, confidence, and the courage to overcome challenges.

This Harbin study tour successfully integrated educational visits, hands-on experiences, and experiential learning, embodying the spirit of ‘reading ten thousand books and traveling ten thousand miles’. Through revisiting history, students strengthened their convictions; through exploring technological innovation, they broadened their vision; through cultural immersion, they deepened their sense of identity; and through sports challenges, they developed strong character. The journey provided students with a rich, memorable, and transformative learning experience.
